The Minnesota legislature has adjourned its regular session for the year. Since the capitol building was closed to visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, much of the public-facing work was conducted in hybrid or fully online hearings. MSRS staff attended and participated in these hearings as needed.

The 2021 Omnibus Pensions and Retirement Bill (SF 1712/HF  1758) was a bipartisan effort to clean up language and make small, mostly administrative changes for the statewide retirement systems. This became law late last month. No substantial changes were made to MSRS retirement plans, which have continued to benefit from significant reforms passed in 2018.

Lawmakers left Saint Paul after reaching a global spending agreement, but before detailing the state’s next biennial budget. They are expected to return for a special session later this month, during which a state budget may be passed.
