General Plan - Eligibility

Eligibility to collect a monthly retirement benefit (or what we called vested) is based on years of service.

If membership in plan began . . . Retirement eligibility
July 1, 2010 or after
  • Eligible for monthly benefits after five years of service.

  • May be eligible for full retirement benefits at age 66.

  • Eligible for a reduced monthly benefit at age 55 or later, assuming you are vested (5 years of service).

July 1, 1989 - June 30, 2010

  • Eligible for monthly benefits after three years of service.

  • May be eligible for full retirement benefits at age 66.

  • Eligible for a reduced monthly benefit at age 55 or later, assuming you are vested (3 years of service).  

Before July 1, 1989

  • Eligible for full retirement benefits when you meet one of the following criteria:

    • age 65

    • Rule of 90 (your age plus years of service equal 90 or more)

    • age 62, with 30 or more years of service

  • Eligible for a reduced monthly benefit:

    • at age 55 or later, assuming you are vested

    • at any age, with 30 or more years of service
