After Retirement

You will receive your first benefit payment up to 6 weeks after the retirement date indicated on your application. This timeline assumes your application for retirement is in good order, you have provided MSRS with the required documents, and your employer has remitted all contributions to your retirement plan.  Failure to meet these requirements could delay your payment. 

Around the time your first benefit is paid, you will receive a benefit authorization letter from MSRS. This letter verifies:

  • The amount of your first benefit and ongoing benefit payment amounts

  • Your optional survivor benefit, if elected

  • When you will receive your monthly benefit

  • Important tax information
