MSRS sends a 1099-R to anyone who has received a benefit during the calendar year. If you are receiving monthly benefits, the 1099-R is mailed in January. If you receive a one-time, lump-sum refund of your contributions, a 1099-R will be mailed soon after your check is sent. This form is necessary to file your federal and state tax returns.
