Pension Plan

Mandatory Participation

A pension plan provides retirement, survivor, and disability coverage for eligible employees.

  • Monthly pension benefit will be paid for life
  • You are required by state law to contribute a percentage of your gross salary (6%) to fund your pension
  • You must meet vesting requirements to receive a pension benefit

 

 


Available to all Metropolitan Council employees, as well as all Minnesota state employees and many non-faculty employees at the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State university system.

HCSP

Mandatory Participation

The Health Care Savings Plan (HCSP) is a tax-free medical savings account. You can access your HCSP account balance for reimbursement of eligible health care expenses incurred after you leave public employment. 

  • Participation is negotiated and agreed upon by your union
  • You direct where your contributions are invested. Choose from a variety of investment options
  • You are always 100% vested
  • Funds are available once you separate from service

 

Available to all Minnesota public employees including city, state, county, school districts and political subdivisions.

MNDCP

Voluntary Participation

The Minnesota Deferred Compensation Plan (MNDCP) enables any full, part-time or temporary employee to contribute through payroll deduction to a voluntary retirement account. It is a smart and easy way to supplement income from your pension & Social Security benefits.

  • Flexibility to increase, decrease or stop your contribution amount at any time
  • You are always 100% vested
  • Funds are available once you separate from service

     


Available to all Minnesota public employees including city, state, county, school districts and political subdivisions.

To schedule an appointment, simply select your date to find an available time slot with either of our three counselors.

Simply complete the appointment request form to schedule a phone or Zoom virtual appointment with an MSRS Retirement Counselor. Appointments are available weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
