As a state employee, you contribute to one of the pension plans administered
by the Minnesota State Retirement System (MSRS). Your employer also
contributes to the retirement plan on your behalf. Most state employees
contribute to the General Employees Retirement Plan. However, MSRS also administers the Correctional Plan, the State Patrol
Plan and the Unclassified Plan. If you are not sure which plan you are covered by,
please contact your human resource department or MSRS.
All plans provide important retirement, survivor, and disability coverage for state employees.
In most cases, you qualify for monthly benefits with three years of service, and reduced benefits
can begin as early as age 55 (age 50 for Correctional and State Patrol Plan members).
