Service requirements (vesting schedule)
- If hired before July 1, 2010, members with three years
of allowable service credit are fully vested and therefore,
eligible to receive a monthly benefit in retirement.
- If hired on or after July 1, 2010, vesting is based on a
graded schedule.
- 50% vested after 5 years of service
- 60% vested after 6 years of service
- 70% vested after 7 years of service
- 80% vested after 8 years of service
- 90% vested after 9 years of service
- 100% vested after 10 years of service
Age requirements
A Correctional Plan employee may begin drawing a reduced benefit
as early as age 50 and an unreduced benefit at age 55.
Employer-Paid health insurance benefits
Employees of many positions covered by the Correctional Plan are
also eligible for employer-paid health insurance benefits from the
date they retire until they reach age 65. Please contact your
human resource department regarding this important health care
coverage benefit before you decide to retire.
